Synopsis of Each Lesson

This website, forgetmenotlessons.com offers 9 ready-made lesson plans for high school students and adults, as follows:

      1. Addressing Indigenous person:
        1. Begins with a Welcoming;
        2. The importance of greeting the Indigenous properly and with respect;
        3. Activity: The students experience the silent treatment.
        4. Discussion.
      2. Forget Me Not Story and video:
        1. A personal story from an Indigenous woman’s perspective; a written story and a video recording of that story is included in this chapter;
        2. Discussion and activity to learn what the creator sent all students to earth to learn.
      3. Chronological History of Indigenous 1492 to 1812;
        1. To summarize the basic chronological history of the Indigenous in Canada from 1492 to 1812;
        2. Activity: A card game to understand the effects of neglect and silence.
      4. Continued Chronological History 1812 to 2019;
        1. Complete card game;
        2. Activity: The students research each card topic in depth.
      5. Indigenous Activism;
        1. To summarize some social injustices the Indigenous endured from 1535 to 2020 and to highlight the Indigenous were always activists despite the repressive propaganda of Euro-Canadians.
      6. Residential Schools;
        1. Residential Schools disrupted Indigenous roles in Indigenous community life;
        2. Activity: A game showing how the roles of community members were disrupted
      7. Indigenous Traditions:
        1. To learn the importance of Indigenous history and culture for the Indigenous future;
        2. Activity: Comparing old and new values.
      8. Traditional Medicine;
        1. Gratitude, self care, time to meditate on life questions are all questions for a sweat lodge and a 3 day fast. (This is in preparation for a sweat and 3 day fast not an actual sweat)
      9. Notable Indigenous
        1. Men: Activity example: find Dan George’s “Lament for a Nation”.
        2. Women: Indigenous women who contributed to the Indigenous history in Canada;
